27 Sentences That’ll Get You Hired

(this is everything I’ve learned in the last 5 years in 3 minutes)

1. Be intentional with your job search.

Intentional = understand what you want and map on steps to get there

2. Your first step should be clarity then strategy.

Clarity = Get clear on what you want. Strategy = Create steps to get there.

3. If you create a strategy, you'll be light years ahead of people who don't.

Most people ‘randomly’ go through their job search. Strategy is how you win.

4. Focus on conversations and applications.

Applications go hand in hand with conversations & networking

5. Network to build relationships (not use people).

Networking is a two way street. Give to get.

6. Your resume is a sales page (sell your story).

Tell one cohesive story with your resume. You are ‘selling’ yourself.

7. Your LinkedIn is a landing page.

Recruiters want to (easily) understand why you’re great for the role.

8. Focus your efforts on 1-2 target job titles / roles

You can apply to 100s of jobs but focus on a few key job titles. Then have all your supporting documents (resume / LinkedIn etc.) to tell the right story for that role.

9. Your resume, LinkedIn, and interview are stories.

Make sure they’re telling the same / right story.

10. Practice public speaking.

Communication will always be important.

11. Record yourself outloud when you practice interviewing.

This will help you speak more smoothly.

12. Practice storytelling by writing and speaking.

Storytelling needs to be practiced with both.

13. If you don't believe in yourself, no one will believe in you.

Confidence is hard… but without it people won’t believe in you.

14. Resumes are just 1 part of the job search.

They’re important but not everything.

15. Over-prepare for your interviews.

Easy way to stand out.

16. Stay in touch with your network (even when you don't need a job)

Best time to network? When you don’t need a job. Easiest way to stay in touch? 1 email every 3-6 months with a quick life update.

17. Your network is your career safety net and your career trampoline.

Career safety net = help you when you need a job. Career trampoline = help you get new opportunities faster than you would otherwise.

18. If you change the name on your resume, it shouldn't make any sense.

Meaning = be specific. When you vague your resume could be anyone’s resume.

19. Don't waste time NOT leveraging new technologies (use AI to save you time).

AI is here. Use it, learn it, master it. Get your AI Job Search Guide here.

20. Always negotiate (multiple offers is your best leverage).

You’ll regret it if you don’t negotiate early on.

21. Employers care about their bottom-line more than they care about you.

They’ll always care about profits first. Don’t feel bad about looking elsewhere.

22. Put yourself first, employers second.

Same thing… you came first. Always.

23. Recruiters are your friends and advocates (treat them well & ask them questions).

Recruiters are your friends. Of course they’ll be good & bad recruiters like any other job, but treat them well and use them to support you.

24. Use LinkedIn to engage with your community.

Comment on people’s post. DM people. Leverage LinkedIn.

25. Prioritize your mental health and take breaks.

If you burn out… none of the first 24 sentences matter. Make a sustainable strategy.

26. Create a schedule that works for you.

Don’t burnout.

27. Every person's journey is different, these tips worked for me.

This is from my experience and my clients. BUT every jobseekers journey is different. There will never be a ‘1 size fits all’. Just what (may) work in your situation.

P.S. What's your favorite sentence/tip?

» Reply back with your favs 😎

Mine: Your resume, LinkedIn, and interviews are a story.

Why?

Too many people view them as different. But in the end… you wanna share 1 story. And you once you wrap your head around that idea, you’ll be golden.
