My Personal Spotlight...

I'm super extroverted and love speaking with and meeting new people. Although sometimes I need to stop myself from speaking to make sure I'm listening too (2 ears > 1 mouth). Some of you may relate and some of you may have trouble speaking and are great listeners. I truly believe listening is an incredible skill and just as important (or more) than speaking. This relates to networking and life.

πŸ‘Š Actionable Steps

Tip 1: Tell Stories in Interviews to be Remembered

Without stories, interviewers will forget you.

How do you prepare stories?

Prepare 1-2 stories per qualification.

Use SCARL (situation, complication, action, result, learnings)

Tip 2: Always Build Your Network

Only network when you need a job?

Network when you have one.

Why?

You'll be curious > needy.

Your network will create new opportunities & be a safety net.

Tip 3: Network to Give Value

But how?

Be curious… Focus on what you wanna learn.

And use their LinkedIn profile to learn what they value.

Then see if you can help them.

Tip 4: Start Content Creation to Build Your Brand & Network

I’ve built a community of 15000+ with 3 months of content creation.

Scared to get started?

Start with comments...

Content creation is the fastest way to build your network.

Tip 5: Discover Jobs You Love (and avoid ones you hate)

Job descriptions are a goldmine of valuable information.

Align your interview answers with the top skills it mentions.

Interviewers will ask you questions based on the job description.

Tip 6: Turn Interviews Into Two-Way Conversations

Share stories, ask great questions, and connect on hobbies.

Turn interview questions into your follow up questions.

For Example: What are the biggest challenges your team has faced in the last 6-12 months

Tip 7: Overprepare for Your Interviews

Start with the basics:

  • Study the interviewer

  • Craft insightful questions

  • Study the job description (#5)

  • Review company websites & blogs

  • Speak with customers and learn their challenges

TL;DR:

  • Tell Stories

  • Always Network

  • Network to Give Value

  • Start Content Creation

  • Analyze Job Descriptions

  • Interviews are Conversations

  • Overprepare for Your Interviews
